Four beaches in Puerto del Carmen, in the municipality of Tías, have regained their prestigious Blue Flag awards for 2026, recognising high standards in water quality, safety, accessibility and environmental management.

The beaches awarded are Playa Grande, Matagorda, Los Pocillos and Playa Chica, all located in one of Lanzarote’s busiest tourist resorts. The announcement was made today (Tuesday) by the Association for Environmental and Consumer Education.

The Blue Flag is an internationally recognised acknowledgement of quality, awarded to beaches that meet strict criteria on cleanliness, facilities, safety measures and sustainable management.

Tías Town Hall welcomed the news, highlighting its importance for Puerto del Carmen, which is celebrating 60 years as an international tourist destination this year.

Mayor José Juan Cruz said the awards reflect ongoing efforts to maintain high standards along the coastline and strengthen the area’s reputation among visitors.

Councillor for Beaches, Christopher Notario, added that the recognition confirms the municipality meets the required standards for services, maintenance, safety and environmental care.

Local authorities say they will continue investing in the upkeep and improvement of coastal areas, particularly in Puerto del Carmen, to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for both residents and tourists.
