Cloudier skies and light rain are set to return to parts of the Canary Islands today, Friday, particularly across northern and mid-altitude areas, according to the latest forecast from AEMET.
Despite the cloud and drizzle expected in northern areas, southern tourist resorts across the islands are likely to continue enjoying warm temperatures and long sunny spells heading into the weekend.
At sea, moderate north-easterly winds force 4 to 5 are expected, along with moderate wave conditions.
This change in weather marks a return to more typical late spring conditions in the Canary Islands after several unusually hot and hazy days earlier this week.
Island-by-island forecast for Friday 29th May 2026:
Tenerife
Northern Tenerife below 900 to 1,100 metres will see cloudy skies and the possibility of occasional drizzle, particularly in mid-altitude areas. The rest of the island, including much of the south, is expected to remain mostly sunny with only occasional cloud.
Temperatures will remain stable or fall slightly in northern and western areas. Moderate north-easterly winds are forecast, with stronger gusts possible along eastern coastal areas, the far west, and parts of the southern midlands near the metropolitan area during the afternoon. Sea breezes will dominate along western coastlines.
General temperature range: Low of 20°C and high of 25°C.
Gran Canaria
Northern parts of Gran Canaria below 900 to 1,100 metres are expected to remain cloudy for much of the day, with occasional light drizzle possible in mid-altitude areas.
Brighter spells are expected to develop during the afternoon, while southern and coastal tourist areas will remain mostly sunny and dry. Temperatures will stay stable along the coast but may fall slightly inland.
Moderate north-easterly winds are forecast, with stronger intervals possible on south-eastern and north-western slopes where very strong gusts cannot be ruled out.
General temperature range: Low of 20°C and high of 24°C.
Lanzarote
Northern and western areas of Lanzarote will begin the day under cloudy skies, although conditions are expected to improve gradually with brighter intervals developing later on. Moderate northerly winds are forecast throughout the day.
There is a low probability of occasional light drizzle in exposed northern areas during the morning. The rest of the island should remain mostly sunny with little change in temperatures.
General temperature range: Low of 17°C and high of 24°C.
Fuerteventura
Cloudier conditions are expected across northern areas and along the west coast early in the day before skies become clearer later on. Temperatures will remain largely unchanged, with warm and pleasant conditions continuing across the island. Moderate northerly winds may become occasionally strong in the Jandía area in the south.
