Couple arrested for stealing 21 perfumes and aftershaves at Canary Island airport

The Guardia Civil have apprehended a man and a woman, aged 20 and 31 years old, at Fuerteventura Airport for stealing 21 bottles of perfume and aftershave valued at over 2,000 euros from one of the airport's shops.

According to an official statement, store staff reported observing a young couple stashing perfumes in a travel suitcase before they went to board a flight to Tenerife.

Agents from the Fiscal and Border Section of Fuerteventura Airport initiated a bag search in the boarding area, where they discovered an abandoned and unidentified suitcase containing the stolen perfumes.

Subsequently, an analysis of the security cameras was conducted, revealing footage of the couple taking the perfumes and placing them in a pink and white case, initially carried empty to transport the stolen items. Because of the presence of the Guardia Civil, they dumped the suitcase to avoid being linked to the crime.

However, thanks to the visual identification of the couple through CCTV cameras they were found in the boarding area and subsequently arrested.

The recovered perfumes were returned to the duty free store, while the suspects were handed over to the judicial authorities of the Duty Court of Puerto del Rosario along with the relevant legal proceedings.
