The ongoing air traffic controller strike affecting French airspace, could directly impact flights scheduled for today to the Canary Islands and to French airports. The strike may also indirectly affect other flights from various countries that need to cross French airspace, including from the UK, according to the Fuerteventura Tourism Board.
Forecasts show that 70% of flights from Paris have been cancelled. Fuerteventura has two scheduled flights today, one by Transavia and another by Vueling. This disruption could affect more than 800 passengers, considering both outbound and return flights.
Additionally, the strike may cause multiple ‘knock on’ delays for other flights heading to Fuerteventura that must fly over French airspace.
The restrictions will be in place from 6:00am to 11:30pm tonight, covering the entire operating hours of Paris Orly Airport, which is the second busiest airport in the French capital, handling 32.3 million passengers a year.
The Tourism Board urges passengers with scheduled flights to check their flight status with their respective airlines, as numerous delays and cancellations are expected.
