Hunt for Anna and Olivia Day 34: Sonar ship starts tracking the coast of Tenerife

Although the Guardia Civil is keeping the theory of an escape from Tenerife open, the search continues on and around the island for Tomas Gimeno and his missing daughters.

Yesterday the research vessel Angeles Alvariño, equipped with sidescan sonar and a submarine robot, joined the search, tracking the east coast of Tenerife from Santa Cruz to Guimar.

This will be extended to the south of the island and to parts of La Palma over the next few days. The vessel has sailed from mainland Spain to assist investigators, due to the depth of the sea in the Canary Islands and the difficult topography of the volcanic landscape under the water.

After its arrival at the port of Santa Cruz on Saturday afternoon, where it docked at the Dique del Este, yesterday morning a meeting was held between the personnel of the ship with the Guardia Civil investigators assigned to the case and responsible for the investigation.

After finalising their search area and criteria, the Angeles Alvariño started scanning the waters of the island in a desperate bid to find any clues to the whereabouts of the two sisters.
