Flight disruptions at Tenerife’s airports due to strong winds and fog

Both of Tenerife’s airports in the north and south of the island experienced disruptions to flights with 13 flights diverted and six cancelled due to bad weather, although at no time did they cease their activity. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) had warned of local conditions including fog and strong winds which are what affected some flights.

The AENA press office has released details of the affected flights in Tenerife North (Los Rodeos airport), which had 13 diverted from Madrid (2), Barcelona (2), Valencia, Malaga, Santiago de Compostela, Jerez, La Palma, Gran Canaria (2), Lanzarote and La Gomera.

Regarding the cancellations in Los Rodeos, there were three cancelled arrivals (La Palma (2) and Fuerteventura) and six departures that did not take off, which were three from La Palma, two from Gran Canaria and one from Fuerteventura, all of them due to bad visibility.

As for the Reina Sofia airport in the south of Tenerife, there were two flights diverted due to strong winds, which were from Manchester and London Gatwick, which landed in Fuerteventura yesterday morning before completing their journey to Tenerife when conditions cleared.
