El Medano beach closed for swimming due to water contamination

The Granadilla town Hall has issued a warning that bathing is prohibited at beach of El Médano in the south of Tenerife from today, Thursday August 12th, until further notice, due to a pollution index being detected by the Canary Islands Sanitary Inspection Service, of higher than the allowed one, which is 200ufc / 100ufc ml of E-Coli.

Specifically, according to the City Council of Granadilla de Abona in a statement, the prohibited area is the central beach of El Médano, where the contamination has been detected after the submission of the results from routine analysis.

Following this, more samples have been taken by the Public Health Inspection Services in the bathing areas of the municipality first thing this morning, and pending those results, they will decide when it can be open to the public again.

The City Council emphasizes that this is a precautionary measure and that no harm can be caused, but always want to guarantee safety for the users of the beaches in the area, and ensures that they will be able to swim there again very shortly.
