Covid update: 334 new infections as cases and hospitalisations continue to increase

The latest data, which will be used for the review of the epidemiological data tomorrow for the alert levels in the islands, reports 334 new cases of coronavirus in the Canary Islands in the last 24 hours, with 136 medical discharges leaving 2,708 active cases of which 190 are in hospital (an increase of 15 from yesterday) and 27 are in ICU.

They have also confirmed the death of the 53rd person in Lanzarote, a 65-year-old man, who is the 1,034th person to die from coronavirus in the Canary Islands since the pandemic began.

The bad news is that as the cases as have gone up, so have the number of outbreaks, which have rebounded to 106 this week with 535 people infected. Of these, 56 new outbreaks are in Tenerife, 34 are in Gran Canaria, 7 are in Fuerteventura, 5 are in Lanzarote, 2 are in La Palma, and 2 are in La Gomera.

The highest number of new outbreaks are from social situations, either at home, at a party, or in a bar with 30, 28 are among family gatherings, 26 are in the workplace, 17 are in educational centres, collectives, 1 is in a sport environment, and 1 is in a health centre.
