Covid update: 189 new cases and one death as incidence rates increase in the islands

The Canary Islands have started the week with a Covid related death in El Hierro, an 87 year old man, only the fourth on the island, which increases the number of fatalities to 562 since the beginning of the pandemic. In addition, the islands add 189 new cases that raise the accumulated total to 38,629.

The archipelago has 6,931 active cases as of today, of which 86 are in Intensive Care (three more than yesterday), 297 are admitted to hospital wards, and 6,548 are under treatment at their homes. Gran Canaria now has 57% of the active cases on the islands.

Since the start of the pandemic 562 people have lost their lives, and Tenerife continues to lead this statistic with 336 deaths, followed by Gran Canaria with 177, Lanzarote with 31, Fuerteventura with eight, La Palma with six and El Hierro with four. The capital of Gran Canaria is the municipality with the most deaths from Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic with 167 deaths, 30% of the total.

The Accumulated Incidence rate (AI7) at seven days stands at 61.48 per 100,000 inhabitants for the islands, and the AI ​​at 14 days at 132.67, both have increased over the weekend.
