Covid update: The Canaries adds another 5,000 new cases and 6 more deaths

The Ministry of Health has updated the daily epidemiological data for the Canary Islands on Kings Day, with 5,087 new cases detected and six more deaths, five of them in Tenerife and 1 in Gran Canaria, meaning that 38 people have died with Covid in the first six days of 2022.

In total 175,103 people have now had Covid in the archipelago with 58,585 people still infected with the virus, 430 of these are in hospital wards and 60 are in ICU.

Of the new cases today Tenerife has the most with 2,334 new infections followed by Gran Canaria with 1,782. Lanzarote has registered 392 new cases, La Palma has 251, Fuerteventura has 246, El Hierro 47, and La Gomera 35.

Currently there are 30,631 infected people in Tenerife (3,891 of them in the south of the island) and 19,406 in Gran Canaria, as the two capital islands account for 85% of all active cases in the islands.
