Adeje council and the Walk for Life launch the ‘Mobile Pink Room’

The Carrera por la Vida - Walk for Life Foundation has just launched another initiative designed to help those suffering from breast cancer and their families. The Mobile Pink Room is a new project, supported by the Adeje council and the Caixa Bank Social Fund.

The Mobile Pink Room will be carrying out different activities, awareness raising, workshops, etc., in the four boroughs that are currently signed up for the initiative: Adeje, Arona, Santiago del Teide and Buenavista del Norte.

Chemists also play a vital part in the project as information points for the teams and the public, and the initiative was launched in the Callao Salvaje Pharmacy, with Adeje health councillor Amada Trujillo Bencomo, Hermi Tacoronte Sánchez from the Walk for Life foundation and the pharmacy owner Mari del Mar Manso López. 

According to Trujillo Bencomo, “the main aim is to help those directly affected by breast cancer, still the second highest cancer listed in Spain, with over 33,000 cases in the most recent figures, according to the Spanish Cancer Association.”

The Mobile Pink Room will put a range of informative tools at the disposal of those who need them, meet and advise members of the public on nutrition, exercise, physiotherapy, etc., with individual and group attention on offer. They will also have information about the free therapeutic bra offer for every woman in the Canaries who has had a mastectomy.

The unit will also be giving information on the essential role early detection and self-examination plays in breast cancer treatment. 

The Walk for Life movement formed the foundation in 2017 and among the permanent projects is The Pink Room/Sala Rosa, a space, in the Adeje Council Centre for Participation and Social Harmony, where professionals from all walks of life (medical, yoga, dance, painting, crafts, etc.) offer classes, help, advice, for those affected, and run by volunteers.
