Wizz Air has clinched the coveted title of "Europe’s Leading Low-Cost Airline 2023" at the esteemed World Travel Awards (WTA), after beating fierce competition from seven other well-known airlines contending for the prestigious accolade.
The 30th annual World Travel Awards ceremony, a hallmark event celebrating excellence in travel and tourism, took place in the picturesque city of Batumi, Georgia. Known for its rigorous evaluation of airlines, destinations, and attractions worldwide, the WTA bestowed this esteemed recognition upon Wizz Air, reaffirming the airline's commitment to excellence in the industry.
The shortlist of contenders for the title this year included the following airlines in addition to Wizz Air: Aer Lingus, easyJet, Jet2.com, Norwegian, Ryanair, Volotea, and Vueling.
Expressing his delight at the announcement, András Radó, Senior Communications Director at Wizz Air, stated, "This win is a reassurance that we’re on the right track, we provide great customer service to our passengers, and this is a very important award for this airline.”
“As for the future, we are tripling our size in the next decade, we’re getting new aircraft, we’re building a new team, we’re ramping up operations, and we’ll be introducing more routes all across Europe and beyond."
Wizz Air's journey to this prestigious win was marked by previous nominations in other categories, including Europe’s Leading Inflight Magazine 2022, World’s Leading New Airline 2006, and World’s Leading New Airline 2005. However, this triumph represents the airline's first nomination and victory in the “Europe’s Leading Low-Cost Airline” category.
In addition to their latest recognition at the WTA, Wizz Air was acknowledged as Europe’s fastest-growing and most environmentally sustainable airline at the Centre for Aviation Award for Excellence 2022, organized by CAPA.
CAPA, a globally recognized source of market intelligence for the aviation and travel industry, commended Wizz Air's commitment to sustainable practices.
This commitment was exemplified in their recent statement of support for the ReFuelEU Aviation Regulation, adopted by the European Parliament. Wizz Air's dedication to advancing sustainable aviation fuel research and development was evident through their £5 million equity investment in the British biofuel company Firefly and their participation in a $50 million investment in CleanJoule, a US-based biofuel start-up.
Wizz Air's triumph at the World Travel Awards 2023 reinforces their position as a leader in the low-cost airline industry and underscores their dedication to both exceptional customer service and sustainability in aviation. With ambitious plans for expansion and continued innovation, Wizz Air is poised to remain at the forefront of European air travel for years to come.
