A man in his 50s has died after being pulled from the sea at Corralejo beach, in the municipality of La Oliva, Fuerteventura, despite desperate attempts to save his life.
According to the Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES), the man was taken out of the water by several people who immediately raised the alarm and requested urgent medical assistance.
When lifeguards reached the scene, they found the man in cardiorespiratory arrest and began performing basic resuscitation techniques.
Moments later, medical staff from the Canarian Emergency Service (SUC) arrived and continued with advanced resuscitation efforts. Sadly, these were unsuccessful, and his death was confirmed at the scene.
Local police officers also attended, assisting emergency teams and preparing the necessary reports. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the victim.
This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of taking extra care in the sea, particularly along the Canary Islands’ coastlines, where currents can often be unpredictable and dangerous.
