Tenerife hotels record 87% occupancy in August
Hotels and holiday apartments across the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife closed August with an average occupancy rate of 86.37%, according to the latest survey carried out by the Tenerife hoteliers’ association Ashotel. The figure is almost identical to that recorded in the same month last year.
The survey, conducted between 1st and 4th September by Ashotel’s Observatory of Tourism Competitiveness and Sustainable Development for Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro, also revealed booking levels already secured for the coming months: 79.93% for September and 71.44% for October.
Island by island data
Breaking the data down by island, Tenerife once again topped the list with an average occupancy of 87.45%, followed by La Palma (76.89%) and La Gomera (65.34%). No reliable data was available for El Hierro on this occasion.
Within Tenerife itself, the south of the island remained the strongest performer, with establishments reaching an average of 89.72% occupancy, slightly above the north’s 82.73%. Meanwhile, the metropolitan area (Santa Cruz and La Laguna) recorded 62.68%, which represents a two-point increase compared to August 2024.
Forward bookings
Looking ahead, the breakdown for September shows Tenerife at 81.64%, La Palma at 62.78%, and La Gomera at 54.91%. For October, bookings stand at 73.3% for Tenerife, 52.1% for La Palma, and 45% for La Gomera.
Hoteliers’ expectations for the autumn months are mixed: 34% believe occupancy will match last year’s levels, 33.3% expect an increase, and 32.6% foresee a drop.
These figures highlight both the ongoing strength of south Tenerife as a tourist destination and the challenges faced by smaller islands and urban areas as the summer season transitions into autumn.
