A bus lost its brakes and crashed into several parked vehicles last night (Saturday) at 9.30pm in the town of Corralejo, in the north of Fuerteventura. Fortunately, no one was injured as the bus was empty at the time of the incident.
The accident occurred on Avenida Juan Carlos I and involved seven vehicles, although some emergency sources indicated that up to eight parked cars may have been damaged.
According to information provided by the La Oliva Fire Brigade, the bus suffered a total brake failure, causing the driver to lose control of it. With no passengers on board, the bus crashed into a line of parked cars along the avenue, resulting in significant damage.
Emergency services were dispatched to secure the area and assess the situation. While there were no personal injuries, the damage to the affected vehicles has been described as extensive, with several cars suffering serious impacts.
The incident caused temporary disruption in the area while emergency crews worked to ensure safety and remove the damaged vehicles. An investigation is expected to determine the exact cause of the mechanical failure.
The incident, while dramatic, ended without casualties, a fortunate outcome given the potential severity of a runaway vehicle in a populated area.
