The Court of Las Palmas has sentenced a man to four years and three months in prison, along with a €7,290 fine, after he admitted to contacting 46 minors in the Canary Islands between 2016 and 2019 through fake social media accounts to obtain sexual images and videos.
During the hearing, the defendant accepted the charges brought by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, including 26 crimes of exhibitionism, 15 offences of prostitution and corruption of minors, and 10 counts of sexual abuse of minors committed online.
He has also been ordered to pay €29,000 in compensation to the victims.
The man is a Brazilian national with a 40% recognised disability due to mild intellectual impairment. He exchanged sexually explicit photos and videos with the children, and in some cases even proposed meeting them for physical encounters.
He was arrested in June 2019 at his home in the south of Fuerteventura, where police discovered seven electronic devices containing illegal material.
Since the start of the investigation, the man has admitted his crimes, expressed remorse, and cooperated with the authorities by providing access to his home and passwords for his computers and phones, according to the prosecution. His admission and collaboration were taken into account during sentencing.
