A man tragically drowned this afternoon (Tuesday) at Costa Calma beach in Pájara, Fuerteventura, as reported by the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES).

CECOES received an alert at 12:50pm informing them that a swimmer was in distress at Costa Calma beach and was unresponsive.

They immediately dispatched the necessary emergency resources including a GES rescue helicopter to the location given.

Upon arrival, the crew located the man in the water and airlifted him to the helicopter before landing in a safe area nearby where paramedics were waiting to assess him.

Once on land, they confirmed that the man was in cardiorespiratory arrest, and despite performing resuscitation manoeuvres, they were unable to revive him and ultimately pronounced him deceased.
