The Canary Islands are set for a blustery start to the week, with strong winds and rising temperatures expected across much of the archipelago today, according to the latest forecasts from AEMET. Weather warnings remain in place for rough seas and powerful gusts of up to 70km/h, and are expected to continue throughout Monday.
Forecasters say maximum temperatures will increase slightly, particularly in inland areas, while coastal regions are likely to remain largely unchanged.
At sea, conditions will be rough, with strong north-easterly winds reaching force 5 to 7, and waves building from around two metres to as much as four metres later in the day.
Island-by-island outlook for Monday 13th April 2026:
Tenerife
Cloudy in the north early and late in the day, with brighter spells in between. A chance of light rain during the morning, mainly in mid-level areas. The rest of the island will be mostly clear. Temperatures will edge up inland and in higher areas, especially in the south. Winds from the north-east will be moderate to strong, with very strong gusts likely in exposed areas and at higher altitudes.
General temperature range: Low of 17°C and high of 22°C.
Gran Canaria
Cloudier conditions in the north, with a slight chance of light rain during the morning, especially in mid-altitude areas. Elsewhere, skies will be mostly clear. Temperatures rising slightly inland, with little change along the coast. Strong north-easterly winds expected, particularly in higher areas and on south-east and western slopes.
General temperature range: Low of 17°C and high of 20°C.
Lanzarote
Cloudy early on, clearing to mostly sunny skies through the day, with some cloud returning in the north later. Temperatures steady overall, with slight rises inland. Strong north-easterly winds, with the risk of very strong gusts spreading to coastal areas.
General temperature range: Low of 16°C and high of 21°C.
Fuerteventura
Cloudy at first, becoming largely clear with some clouds later. Little change in minimum temperatures, while inland areas may see slight increases. Winds will be moderate from the north-east, becoming strong along eastern and western coasts and in Jandía, where very strong gusts are possible.
General temperature range: Low of 16°C and high of 21°C.
Residents and visitors are advised to take care, particularly in coastal and exposed areas, as conditions may become hazardous due to wind and rough seas.
Please remember:
It’s important to be aware that the Canaries consist of micro-climates across the islands due to the mountainous areas. This means all forecasts and temperatures are general for the island, and not location specific. It will generally be cooler at altitude up mountains, and warmer in sheltered coastal areas, and can be very different just a few kilometres away.
