A massive fire that is giving a huge plume of smoke that can seen for miles around, has broken out in a scrapyard near the Cueva del Hermano Pedro in Granadilla de Abona, in the south of Tenerife close to the Reina Sofia airport.
Firefighters from all over the island have been sent to the area, but are struggling to get the blaze under control as there is great concern that there are a lot of flammable and potentially explosive materials on the site. At the moment, there are five fire trucks at the site, but access is difficult for them, so the emergency services are not ruling out activating aerial support to put out the fire.
The fire has caused a huge plume of smoke that is now crossing the TF-1 motorway, which is, fortunately, heading away from the airport but towards the area of San Isidro, as the wind is blowing it in that direction.
