The Guardia Civil have arrested a 58-year-old man for his alleged involvement in four robberies at bars and restaurants in Gran Canaria. The suspect reportedly gained entry by climbing over walls or breaking windows and doors, stealing cash and cigarettes worth over €2,000.
The investigation began after multiple reports were made at the end of July and during August, detailing thefts from various businesses in Arucas. The Guardia Civil noted a consistent "modus operandi" in which the burglar targeted establishments without alarm systems, forcing entry before breaking into vending machines and cash registers to steal the contents.
The total estimated damage from the robberies includes over €1,600 in cash, €500 in cigarettes, and approximately €1,400 in property damages, totalling around €3,500.
The Guardia opened an investigation with officers making technical inspections, taking witness statements, and studying CCTV footage. From this, they gathered sufficient evidence to identify, locate, and apprehend the suspect.
The detainee, along with all related evidence, has been handed over to the Arucas Judicial Court for further proceedings.
