The Cabildo of El Hierro has confirmed the discovery of the body of Dustin Marcus T., the 46-year-old Hungarian holidaymaker who was reported missing last Tuesday (July 16th), in the municipality of El Pinar.
The search effort, which included a specially organised mountain rescue team, was launched after his disappearance was reported, triggering an alert from the National Centre for Missing Persons (CNDES).
The Guardia Civil have confirmed the identity of the deceased as the Hungarian tourist, although details surrounding the cause of his death have not yet been disclosed.
The authorities expressed their gratitude to all those involved in the search operation over the last week, and emphasised the difficulty of the terrain in finding missing persons in these environments.
Dustin Marcus T. is the second holidaymaker to be found dead in rough terrain in the Canary Islands in the last two weeks following the disappearance of 19-year-old Jay Slater whose body was found in a ravine in Masca in Tenerife after being missing for four weeks.
