A woman has died after being hit by a vehicle on the TF-5 motorway in Tenerife during the early hours of this morning (Thursday). The incident, which also left two people injured, caused long delays for drivers travelling northbound into Santa Cruz.
Emergency services were alerted at around 7:00 am regarding the accident near the Somosierra bridge.
Paramedics sadly confirmed that the woman had died at the scene from the severity of her injuries.
Two other people were also involved in the accident and required hospital treatment. A 65-year-old woman suffered moderate chest injuries and was transferred to the University Hospital Nuestra Señora de La Candelaria. A 67-year-old man sustained minor cuts to his arm and was also taken to the same hospital.
The accident led to significant tailbacks in the northbound direction of the TF-5 as emergency crews worked in the area.
This is not the first serious accident to occur on the TF-5. Over the past few years, several pedestrians and drivers have lost their lives on this busy route.
On 3rd June 2025, a head-on crash at kilometre 65 near San Juan de la Rambla left a 70-year-old man and a 66-year-old woman with moderate injuries; both had to be freed from their vehicles by firefighters before being taken to hospital.
And just weeks earlier, on 16th May 2025, a six-vehicle pile-up near Icod de los Vinos injured six people, ranging from mild to moderate wounds, and prompted a road closure as emergency crews worked at the scene.
