A 56-year-old woman is in critical condition after being pulled unconscious from the water at Playa del Bobo, in Costa Adeje in the south of Tenerife according to reports from the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES).

The incident occurred at around 10:0oam on Wednesday, when the 1-1-2 operations room received an alert reporting a swimmer in distress. Emergency services were immediately mobilised to the scene.

Lifeguards begin resuscitation on the beach

On arrival, they found beach lifeguards treating the woman, who was in cardiorespiratory arrest, with basic CPR manoeuvres. Paramedics took over and continued with advanced resuscitation, successfully reversing the cardiac arrest and reviving her on the beach.

Emergency personnel confirmed that the woman had also suffered a head injury, complicating her condition.

Transferred to hospital in serious condition

Once stabilised she was transported in a medicalised ambulance to the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria, where she remains under serious prognosis.

Local authorities remind beachgoers to exercise caution, particularly during changing sea conditions and coastal warnings, and to alert lifeguards immediately if they notice someone in difficulty.

Further updates on the woman’s condition are expected from medical staff.
