A woman has been arrested by the National Police after a bloodied foetus was discovered in the toilets of a hospital complex in Maspalomas, in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, in the south of Gran Canaria.
According to sources from the Canary Islands’ Higher Police Headquarters, officers are still in the early stages of the investigation and are working to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The discovery was made yesterday (Sunday) after a hospital security guard alerted authorities to a suspicious bundle found in one of the bathrooms. The object was later confirmed to be a bloodied foetus, wrapped in toilet paper.
National Police officers were immediately sent to the hospital and were able to identify and detain a woman in connection with the case. She remains under police custody at the hospital while investigators continue their enquiries.
At this stage, police have not released further details about the woman or the events leading up to the discovery, and no additional information has been made public as the investigation remains ongoing.
