Two outbreaks of fire have been reported in Tenerife in the last few hours by the Cabildo, in Pino Alto and Ravelo. The first of them was declared this morning in the Pino Alto area, between the municipalities of Santa Úrsula and La Orotava , but outside the perimeter of the August forest fire on the island.
The fire originated in a steep area that is difficult to access, so aerial resources were immediately activated to try to control the fire as soon as possible.
Although they are both reported to be ‘stabilised’ firefighters are still working in the area and a large plume of smoke can be seen as they are not yet ‘controlled’ or extinguished’, which are the three phases of fire extinction as classed by the emergency services.
The second of them is a reactivation of part of the original forest fire. After controlling a different reactivation that occurred yesterday in La Matanza, the fire acted strongly again in Ravelo, which is in the municipality of El Sauzal, where seven homes have been evacuated.
Firefighters quickly moved to the affected area and the situation is said to be “beginning to improve noticeably, so we call for calm,” according to the mayor of El Sauzal, Mariano Pérez, on his social media.
