A man in Tenerife is being investigated after three dogs, two cats, and a rabbit were found abandoned in an apartment in awful conditions with no food or water.
The alarm was raised by neighbours who reported a strong stench coming from a nearby home.
When Guardia Civil officers arrived at the property in Icod de Los Vinos, they were met with a grim scene. The animals were living in filth, surrounded by their own waste and swarms of flies. All of them were clearly malnourished, dehydrated, and weak.
The pets were rescued on the spot with help from the Local Police and taken to an animal shelter, where they’re now recovering under veterinary supervision.

None of the animals had proper veterinary records, and only two were microchipped, despite microchipping being a legal requirement in the Canary Islands since 2023.
Officers from the Guardia Civil’s environmental unit, Seprona, launched an investigation and managed to track down the suspected owner later that same day, who has been handed over to the judicial authorities with the incident report.
