VIDEO: Irish Crime Gang Leader Arrested in the Canary Islands
A suspected senior figure in one of Ireland’s most dangerous criminal gangs has been arrested in Lanzarote following a joint international police operation. Officers from Spain’s National Police, working alongside Ireland’s Garda Síochána, detained the man on Wednesday (8th April), in the town of Tías.
Key figure in notorious gang
The suspect is believed to be a leading member of the so-called Hutch criminal organisation, described by authorities in Dublin as a key player in one of the country’s most dangerous crime networks.
He had been under surveillance by ENFAST, the European network that tracks down high-profile fugitives, and was arrested less than 24 hours after Ireland issued a European Arrest Warrant.
Irish officers travelled to Lanzarote to assist in the operation, which successfully located the fugitive on the island.
According to an official police press release, the man held a senior position within the organisation, reportedly leading its intelligence arm. He is also suspected of overseeing financial operations for the gang alongside his father.
Previous arrests linked to the gang
This is not the first major police action against the Hutch network in the Canary Islands. In October 2024, alleged gang leader Gerard Hutch, also known as “The Monk”, was arrested in Lanzarote along with eight others.
Those arrests were linked to serious offences including drug trafficking, human trafficking, and money laundering.
The Hutch organisation is known for its strong family ties and long-standing presence in Dublin. Since 2016, it has been locked in a violent feud with the rival Kinahan gang.
The conflict has claimed at least 18 lives, most of them connected to the Hutch network.
The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities continuing efforts to dismantle the wider criminal operation.
