In an unusual incident at Los Abrigos Beach in the south of Tenerife, a man was brutally beaten with a stick in front of stunned beachgoers yesterday afternoon (Monday) by a holidaymaker. However, it turns out that the victim had tried to steal the attacker's wallet, and caught in the act, the tourist decided to take the law into his own hands and retaliate.
A video of the assault has been circulating on social media, capturing the violent scene that unfolded amidst families enjoying a sunny day at the beach.
The video shows the attacker, a holidaymaker allegedly speaking English, relentlessly hitting the young man with what appears to be the pole from a parasol. The attacker doesn't hold back, even striking the victim on the head, posing a severe risk of injury.
The victim is seen stumbling among the rocks as he backs away, attempting to stand up several times, only to be knocked down again by the barrage of blows. In a desperate bid to escape, he manages to move several metres into the sea, but the assault continues unabated.
The incident occurred in broad daylight, witnessed by several children whose parents quickly fled the scene to shield their young ones from what was happening.
Eyewitnesses have confirmed the attack was sparked by the victim's attempt to steal the attacker's wallet.
A Facebook group has shared images of the victim's injuries (below), revealing severe wounds on his back.
