A swimmer in distress was rescued yesterday afternoon (Sunday) by a GES helicopter after being swept into the sea at Charco de La Laja, in the municipality of San Juan de la Rambla on Tenerife’s north coast.
The emergency occurred at 3:25pm, when the Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) received reports that a bather was struggling in the water and needed urgent help.
Rescue teams quickly located the man at sea and airlifted him to Tenerife North Airport, where SUC paramedics were waiting to provide initial medical care.
According to reports, the man was suffering from moderate hypothermia and was later transferred by ambulance to the University Hospital of the Canary Islands (HUC) for further treatment.
Authorities have once again reminded residents and tourists to exercise caution when swimming in natural pools and along the island’s rugged coastline, especially during changing sea conditions.
