A towering column of thick black smoke that was visible from various points across Costa Adeje caused alarm among residents and motorists this morning, as a coach caught fire near a junction of the TF-1 motorway by Siam Mall shopping centre in the south of Tenerife.
The coach, which was empty at the time, was travelling on the TF-481 by Siam Mall when it caught fire by the roundabout.
The Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES) have confirmed that no injuries were reported as a result of the incident. Emergency response teams, including firefighters, swiftly arrived at the scene to extinguish the flames and ensure the safety of the vehicle and the surrounding area.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, though officials emphasised that the situation was brought under control relatively quickly. Despite this, the sight of the thick smoke and the presence of emergency services created concern among those travelling along the route.
Emergency response teams, including officers from the Arona and Adeje Local Police forces, the Guardia Civil, and the National Police, were on-site to manage the situation. Personnel from the Cabildo’s Department of Roads and Mobility also assisted in restoring order and ensuring the safety of the affected roadway.
Access to the area was temporarily closed, leading to significant traffic jams and delays. Drivers in the vicinity were urged to exercise caution as operations continued to clear and reopen the route.
