A dramatic car fire caused significant disruption on the TF-1 motorway in southern Tenerife over the weekend, with a towering column of black smoke visible from several kilometres away. The incident occurred near junction 55, which leads to the San Isidro roundabout.
The vehicle came to a halt just before entering the slip road for the motorway, emitting black smoke from the front of the car before bursting into flames.
Numerous reports of the fire came from witnesses, including from those waiting at a bus stop at the San Isidro roundabout near the local health centre, who called the emergency services.
CECOES quickly responded to the alerts and sent the San Miguel fire brigade to the scene who extinguished the blaze while the Guardia Civil managed the traffic to limit delays as much as possible.
The car was completely destroyed by the fire and the incident serves as a reminder of the potential hazards on busy roads and the importance of vehicle maintenance and safety.
