Two hotel employees in Tenerife have been arrested after police uncovered an alleged long-running cash theft worth more than €100,000 at a hotel nightclub in the south of the island.

The National Police detained two men aged 58 and 52, both long-serving members of staff at the same hotel in Costa Adeje. They are accused of repeatedly taking cash in a long-running scheme involving misappropriation and fraud.

The case came to light after hotel management raised the alarm, following an internal audit that exposed serious discrepancies in the nightclub’s takings. According to the audit, around €100,000 in cash revenue could not be accounted for.

Police say the irregularities pointed squarely at the two employees, both of whom held long-term contracts and had regular access to the bar’s payment system. Once sufficient evidence had been gathered, officers moved in and placed both men under arrest.

Investigators allege the pair exploited the venue’s billing system to hide the thefts. After taking cash payments from customers, they would cancel the corresponding orders in the computer system, masking the losses in the daily accounts. The cash was then allegedly shared between them at the end of each shift.

The suspected fraud is believed to have continued undetected for around two years, pushing the total amount stolen well beyond €100,000.Top of Form
