The National Police have arrested a man and a woman in the town of Tacoronte in Tenerife, as suspects in at least seven violent robberies that occurred in Puerto de la Cruz during September. The arrests come following an investigation that linked the duo to a string of crimes targeting elderly victims.
According to police reports, the man allegedly ‘ambushed’ elderly holidaymakers, striking them from behind to steal their personal belongings. Meanwhile, the woman waited in a getaway vehicle for a quick escape. The pair would then attempt to withdraw cash using the stolen cards at local ATMs or make purchases at nearby stores before they were cancelled.
Key Evidence Uncovered
Officers discovered that the suspects used a rental car to commit the crimes, which played a crucial role in the investigation. They managed to trace the vehicle and conducted searches of the suspects’ homes, finding substantial evidence to charge them with the robberies. These findings have also opened the door to investigations into other potential crimes committed by the duo.
The man was remanded into provisional custody after appearing before the judicial authorities. In addition to the robbery charges, he faces multiple other accusations, including violating a restraining order, a driving offence, and assaulting law enforcement officers.
Further inquiries are underway to determine the full extent of the suspects’ activities.
