Truck driver seriously injured after plunging 15 metres down slope in Gran Canaria

A truck driver has been seriously injured after his vehicle veered off the GC-65 road and tumbled down a steep 15-metre slope near the Santa Lucía de Tirajana cemetery in Gran Canaria yesterday afternoon, Wednesday.

The Emergency Coordination Centre (CECOES) received an alert just after 3:00pm, prompting a large-scale response including firefighters, paramedics, and the Local Police.

Two ambulances and fire crews assisted in stabilising the driver and securing the crash site for the arrival of a medical helicopter, which airlifted the injured man, who suffered multiple serious injuries, to the Doctor Negrín University Hospital in Las Palmas for further treatment.

Police secured the area and have opened an investigation into the circumstances of the accident. The GC-65 road, which cuts through mountainous terrain, is known for its sharp bends and limited visibility in certain stretches.

A second truck driver was also reported to have sustained serious injuries in what appears to have been a related or simultaneous incident involving a vehicle overturning, though full details have not yet been confirmed.
