Tragedy at Tenerife beach as one person dies during rescue operation

A heartbreaking incident unfolded on San Marcos beach yesterday afternoon (Saturday), resulting in the loss of one life, as emergency responders raced against time to rescue four individuals in distress in the sea.

The Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES) received an urgent distress call in Tenerife at around 1:15pm, alerting them to the perilous situation.

In a swift response, CECOES immediately sprang into action, mobilizing the necessary emergency resources to the beach, which is located in the picturesque town of Icod de Los Vinos in Tenerife.

Rescuers from the GES helicopter team were the first on the scene and airlifted two of the swimmers who were struggling in the water onto the aircraft, before going to pick up the other two who had managed to make it safely to the shore.

However, upon closer examination, one of those rescued from the water was found to be in cardiorespiratory arrest so crew members tried desperately to revive him during the flight to La Guancha.

Unfortunately, despite their unwavering dedication, the attempts proved unsuccessful, and the person was confirmed dead upon arrival at the helipad.

The others were attended to by medical personnel at the helipad, receiving the necessary care and attention before being taken to hospital for further treatment.

This tragic incident is a grave reminder to observe warnings before going into the sea and taking extreme caution if doing so.
