Tourist numbers from the United States to Tenerife have grown by 52%

The number of travellers coming to Tenerife from the United States has increased by 52% compared to 2019, as announced yesterday (Friday) by the president of the Tenerife Cabildo, Pedro Martín, at the Annual Congress of the United States Tour Operators Association (USTOA) which is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

Martín explained that "up until October, a total of 21,450 tourists from the United States came to Tenerife to spend their holidays, which has meant a clear increase in the numbers of North American visitors compared to 2019."

“To this must be added the 3,376 Canadian tourists that have been here this year, which, compared to 2,832 in 2019, translates into an increase of 19.2%," he said.

The president also stressed that throughout 2022 they have carried out an intense publicity campaign to attract and retain the American and Canadian markets, "which has resulted in important agreements, among others with USTOA itself, but also with other American institutions such as the Signature Travel Network and the Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA)”.

The insular director of Tourism, Laura Castro, also valued the presentation of Tenerife made at the USTOA Congress, the biggest annual event for American tour operators, "attended by more than a thousand people which allows them to continue positioning Tenerife as a destination for the North American market”.

The CEO of Tenerife Tourism, David Pérez, who travelled to Texas, said that "given the work to position Tenerife in this market this year, a substantial increase in arrival numbers is expected in 2023. We are being received in a very positive way by US tour operators."

The Tenerife delegation has held twenty meetings at USTOA with relevant tour operators, as well as with associations of travel professionals and specialized media in the field of connectivity and travel. A meeting has also taken place with representatives of United Airlines and the Turespaña Office in New York to discuss future projects regarding the route that connects Newark airport in New York with Tenerife South, which will resume in June 2023, after the success achieved this year.
