A 20-month-old girl was airlifted to hospital in Gran Canaria today (Monday) after being pulled from a swimming pool at a holiday property in Lajares, Fuerteventura.
Emergency services were called after reports that the toddler had suffered a possible drowning incident. A large-scale response was launched, involving police, firefighters, paramedics, Civil Protection volunteers and a medical helicopter.
When the first medical teams arrived, resuscitation efforts were already underway after the child had been rescued from the pool. Medical staff, supported by the helicopter's specialist crew, worked to stabilise her condition at the poolside.
Emergency teams faced an additional challenge after the location of the incident initially had to be corrected to ensure crews reached the exact address as quickly as possible.
Once stabilised, the young girl was transferred to the football ground in Lajares, where the medical helicopter was waiting. She was then flown urgently to the Maternal and Child Hospital in Gran Canaria for further treatment.
