Thief arrested after stealing perfume while standing next to Guardia Civil officer
A man has been arrested after attempting to steal high-end perfumes from a shopping centre in Tenerife, unaware that he was doing so right next to an off-duty Guardia Civil officer.
According to reports, the incident took place in a shopping centre in the municipality of Icod de los Vinos. A Guardia Civil officer from the town’s main station was off duty at the time and visiting the centre with his family when he noticed the suspicious behaviour of another man inside one of the shops.
His suspicious actions caught the officer’s attention, causing him to discreetly monitor the situation. The officer suspected that the man intended to steal items from nearby stores, and his suspicions were soon confirmed.
Moments later, the officer witnessed the man stealing a total of nine perfumes from various well-known luxury brands, with an estimated value of around €700. The officer immediately intervened, identifying himself as a member of the Guardia Civil and requesting assistance from an on-duty public security patrol.
The suspect was detained in the shopping centre, and all of the stolen items were recovered. He was then taken to the Guardia Civil’s main station in Icod de los Vinos.
