The King and Queen of Spain are in Tenerife to visit areas affected by the forest fire

The King and Queen of Spain, Felipe VI and Doña Letizia, are in Tenerife today (Tuesday), to visit the areas affected by forest fire that has been active on the island since mid-August. The fire is still not completely extinguished, and there have been several reactivations, affecting over 14,000 hectares within a 90-kilometre perimeter across 12 municipalities.

Accompanied by the President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, and the President of the Tenerife Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, the royal couple will begin their tour at midday at the Chipeque viewing point in Santa Úrsula. There, they will meet with the mayors of the affected municipalities and the technicians who have managed the extinguishing operation.

Afterwards, at 1:00pm, they will go to Arafo, the municipality where the fire originally ignited. Here, they will hold a meeting at the Cultural and Recreation Association with representatives from economic sectors impacted by the fire. This meeting will also involve community organizations and volunteers, according to the Government press release.

Later this afternoon, at 5:30pm, an event will take place at the Adán Martín Auditorium of Tenerife in Santa Cruz, which will pay tribute to the various teams, personnel, organizations, and local corporations that have been involved since the forest fire was declared on August 15th.
