The Canaries break all-time tourism records with best month and quarter in history

Tourism in the Canary Islands continues to surge, with the region recording its best-ever month and quarter for international arrivals and tourist spending.

According to figures released today (Monday) by the National Statistics Institute (INE), more than 1.55 million foreign tourists visited the Canary Islands in March, up 0.9% on the previous record set in the same month last year.

That growth helped push the total number of international visitors for the first quarter of 2025 to 4.36 million, a 2.1% increase year-on-year.

Spending figures were also the highest on record. In March alone, foreign tourists spent €2.43 billion, up 4.5% compared to the same month in 2024. Over the entire first quarter, total spending reached €6.86 billion, an increase of 5.46%, or roughly €355 million more than the same period last year.

Industry analysts say the continued growth reflects strong international demand and favourable spring forecasts. However, they also note that inflation has played a role in the rising expenditure figures.

The data follows a record-breaking 2024 for the archipelago, which saw unprecedented levels of both tourist numbers and overall spending.
