Teenager caught trying to steal a motorbike in Gran Canaria

A 19-year-old, with a long list of previous offences, has been arrested in Gran Canaria after allegedly breaking into a residential building with a screwdriver to steal a motorbike.

The incident happened last Saturday night in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, when neighbours spotted two men trying to steal a small motorcycle parked in the entrance of a block of flats, and called the police.

Police say the pair forced open the building’s front door using a screwdriver before being scared off by residents who shouted and immediately called them to report the incident.

One of the suspects, a 35-year-old man, was arrested at the scene of the crime, but his younger accomplice managed to get away and remained on the run until Thursday, when he was spotted by a patrol near a petrol station by the Faro de Maspalomas.

According to a police press release, the teenager tried to escape on foot but was caught around 300 metres away. He was arrested for attempted robbery and faces additional charges linked to an existing court order for his immediate arrest and imprisonment over a separate break-in.Top of Form
