Unsettled weather is forecast for the Canary Islands today, Thursday, with meteorologists warning of rain, strong winds, and increasingly rough seas. According to A EMET light to moderate rainfall will affect much of the archipelago, particularly during the early morning and later in the afternoon.
At sea, conditions are expected to deteriorate, with northerly winds strengthening to force 6 offshore. Moderate to rough seas are forecast, alongside a north-westerly swell of 3 to 4 metres, building to as much as 5 metres overnight. Calmer conditions are expected temporarily along southern and eastern coasts.
Residents and visitors are advised to take care, particularly in coastal areas and on higher ground, where conditions may become hazardous as there are still active weather warnings in place.
Island-by-island forecast for Thursday 9th April 2026:

General temperature range: Low of 17°C and high of 20°C.
Tenerife
Cloudier conditions in the north, with light to moderate rain that could become persistent at times. Elsewhere, variable cloud with a chance of occasional light showers. Daytime temperatures will rise slightly in higher areas, while overnight values remain stable. Light frost is possible on Mount Teide. General temperature range: Low of 16°C and high of 22°C.
Please note:
It’s important to remember that the Canary Islands are full of micro-climates due to the mountainous areas. This means all forecasts and temperatures are general for the island, and not location specific. It will generally be cooler at altitude up mountains, and warmer in sheltered coastal areas, and can be very different just a few kilometres away.
