Elite swimmers David Meca and Erika Villaécija will headline a high-level discussion on the future of sport, values, and public–private collaboration, hosted by Spring Hotels in the run-up to the 2nd ‘Blue Challenge’ Open-Water Swim in the south of Tenerife.
The event, titled “The Blue Challenge: A Space for Dialogue on the Challenges, Values and Future of Sport,” will take place on Thursday 7th November from 11:00am at the Arona Gran Hotel in Los Cristianos. It aims to highlight Tenerife’s role as a year-round destination for sports training and competition.
A panel of champions
Joining Meca and Villaécija will be European champion Laura Roca and other leading figures from politics, sport, and the private sector. The open-access forum will explore the realities of elite sport and the importance of cooperation between public institutions and private initiatives to promote athletic activity across the Canary Islands.
“Showcasing the Arona coastline through an event of this magnitude is part of our commitment,” said Miguel Villarroya, CEO of Spring Hotels. “The Blue Challenge is more than a competition; it’s the perfect blend of sport, nature, and the spirit of self-improvement.”
The sporting challenge ahead
Two days later, on Sunday 9th November, the 2nd ‘Blue Challenge’ Swim will take place from Playa de Los Cristianos, now a fixture in the island’s sports calendar.
Participants of all levels can choose from 5,000m, 2,500m, or 1,000m distances, with a free children’s swim reinforcing the event’s inclusive and family-friendly spirit.
The event is supported by the Arona Town Hall and the Tenerife Cabildo, through their Sports and Tourism departments.
