Sunny weather and clearer skies are expected to gradually take over across the Canary Islands this week, as the recent unsettled conditions begin to ease, and temperatures return to the average expected for the time of year.
According to the latest forecasts from AEMET, north-easterly winds will continue across the archipelago but cloud cover and the likelihood of rain are expected to decrease as the week progresses. Temperatures are also forecast to rise slightly, particularly from midweek onwards.
Here is the outlook for the first few days of the week from Monday 18th May 2026:
Monday
Cloudy intervals are expected across the eastern islands (Lanzarote and Fuerteventura), although sunny spells should develop during the middle of the day.
In the more mountainous islands Tenerife and Gran Canaria), northern areas will remain mostly cloudy with a slight chance of light rain during the early morning hours. Elsewhere, skies will be generally clearer.
Temperatures will remain largely unchanged, while moderate north-easterly winds could become strong at times in exposed south-eastern and north-western areas of the higher islands.
General temperature range: Low of 18°C and a high of 24°C.
Tuesday
Northern areas of the mountainous islands are expected to stay cloudy, while the rest of the archipelago should gradually become brighter throughout the day, especially across the eastern islands.
Temperatures will remain stable overall, although slightly warmer conditions are expected in mid-altitude and higher areas of the central islands.
Winds will ease slightly, blowing between light and moderate from the north-east.
General temperature range: Low of 18°C and a high of 24°C.
Wednesday
By Wednesday, mostly sunny conditions are expected across the Canary Islands, with only occasional cloud developing inland over the mountainous islands during the day.
Minimum temperatures will remain similar, while daytime highs could rise slightly. North-easterly winds are forecast to gradually turn more northerly as the day progresses.
General temperature range: Low of 18°C and a high of 25°C.
According to the European weather model ECMWF, the improving conditions are expected to continue beyond midweek, with little cloud cover and no significant rainfall currently forecast.
Canaries micro-climates:
It’s important to be aware that the Canaries consist of micro-climates across the islands due to the mountainous areas. This means all forecasts and temperatures are general for the island, and not location specific. It will generally be cooler at altitude up mountains, and warmer in sheltered coastal areas, and can be very different just a few kilometres away.
