The impact of Storm Therese is already being felt across the Canary Islands, with the first events confirmed as being cancelled. In Santa Cruz, officials have announced the postponement of the 15th edition of Tecnológica Santa Cruz, which had been due to take place from Thursday March 19th to the 22nd.

The decision comes as worsening weather conditions are forecast to hit the islands over the next few days. Organisers have now rescheduled the popular technology event to run from May 14th to 17th, with no changes to its planned venues.

The event will still be hosted at the Museum of Nature and Archaeology (MUNA) and TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes, two of the capital’s key cultural locations.

Tenerife Bluetrail 2026 cancelled

The Tenerife Bluetrail 2026 will also not take place this weekend due to worsening weather forecasts with the arrival of the storms. Organisers have opted to cancel the race, which was expected to have more than 3,400 runners, prioritising safety in the face of the heavy rain and strong gusts of wind predicted for the island.

The race was scheduled to take place between Thursday, March 19th and Saturday, March 21st, with several routes that run through high mountain areas.

The impact of Storm Therese will be felt especially in areas like Teide National Park, through which some of the most demanding routes pass. These routes, which reach altitudes of over 2,000 meters, will be directly affected by the expected adverse weather conditions.

Weather disruption begins

These postponements mark the first confirmed impact of Storm Therese on public events in Tenerife, with further cancellations possible if conditions deteriorate.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation as strong winds, heavy rain and rough seas are expected across parts of the archipelago.
