Scammed in Tenerife: car dealer defrauded people by selling their cars and keeping the money

The Civil Guard have arrested a 36-year-old man in Tenerife, who has been charged with fraud after he took people’s cars into his company to sell them for them, but then left them without the car or the money he had sold it for.

A police investigation began when several people made official complaints to the police (denuncias) for the same thing against the same person based in Candelaria.

They all stated that they had given their vehicle to a company to sell it, but were left with nothing, neither the vehicle nor the money from the sale.

The 36-year-old man, who owns the car company in question, collected the vehicles to act as an intermediary and help sell people’s cars for them, and carry out the administrative process of changing ownership documents after a sale.

However, once the sale was made, he kept the money from the sale and didn’t transfer any of the vehicles into the name of the new owners.

After carrying out the necessary investigations to gather sufficient evidence, officers proceeded with the arrest of the man who is accused of a continuing crime of fraud, in which 12 people (buyers and sellers) have knowingly been affected so far to the amount of 38,600 euros.

The detainee along with the proceedings instructed has been placed at the disposal of the Investigating Court No.2 of Güimar where he is awaiting trial.
