Temperatures above 30°C are set to continue across the Canary Islands today, Sunday, accompanied by calima and strong winds in some areas. The Government have advised residents and visitors to be prepared for the conditions by keeping windows closed and avoiding physical activities in peak times and in very hazy areas.
According to AEMET, winds will generally blow from the east or south, depending on the area. Coastal regions will see light to moderate breezes, while inland areas and higher ground are forecast to experience stronger winds, with occasional very strong gusts, particularly on western and northern slopes and at higher altitudes.
At sea, conditions will include easterly or south-easterly winds at force 3 to 5, with some local strengthening. Moderate seas are expected, along with a northerly to north-westerly swell of 1 to 2 metres.
Island-by-Island Forecast for Sunday 19th April 2026:
Tenerife
Cloudy intervals will clear during the morning, though haze will remain, especially in southern high areas. There is a slight chance of light rain or isolated storms early in the day, mainly in higher areas. Temperatures will remain steady along the coast but fall slightly inland and at altitude. However, mid-level and some low-lying areas could still exceed 30°C. Winds will be light to moderate on the coast, turning westerly later, while stronger southerly winds inland may bring very strong gusts, particularly in central highlands.
General temperature range: Low of 21°C and a high of 29°C.
Gran Canaria
Partly cloudy skies will become clearer through the morning. There is a slight chance of light rain or isolated thunderstorms early in the day, mainly inland. Haze will be more noticeable at mid and high levels but could spread lower. Temperatures will exceed 30°C in mid-altitude areas and the south-west coast, with local highs of up to 34°C possible. Coastal winds will be light to moderate from the east, turning westerly later. Strong winds with very strong gusts are likely inland and on higher ground early on.
General temperature range: Low of 20°C and a high of 28°C.
Lanzarote
Cloudy intervals will give way to clearer skies by early afternoon, though haze will persist. Temperatures will rise slightly, with many areas exceeding 30°C. Inland and western parts could see highs of up to 34°C. Winds will be light to moderate from the east, with stronger spells in the west early and late in the day.
General temperature range: Low of 21°C and a high of 28°C.
Fuerteventura
Similar conditions to Lanzarote, with hazy skies clearing around midday. Temperatures are expected to climb above 30°C widely, with possible peaks of 34°C inland and in the west. Easterly winds will be light to moderate, occasionally strengthening, with a small chance of very strong gusts.
General temperature range: Low of 21°C and a high of 27°C.
