A National Police officer saved the life of a restaurant owner in southern Tenerife this morning (Friday) after he was found with a serious neck wound inside his premises. The incident happened shortly after 9:00am in Los Cristianos. The man had suffered severe blood loss when emergency services were alerted.
A caller raised the alarm after discovering the owner with a knife wound to his neck and in urgent need of medical assistance. Emergency teams were dispatched by the Canary Islands’ 1-1-2 coordination centre, including two ambulances, National Police officers and Local Police from Arona.
One officer from the National Police’s public safety unit acted quickly to stem the bleeding, applying a compression bandage to prevent further blood loss. She continued first aid efforts until paramedics from the Canary Islands Emergency Service arrived and took over.
Sources indicate the injury was self-inflicted. After being stabilised, the man was taken by advanced life support ambulance to the University Hospital Nuestra Señora de La Candelaria in Santa Cruz.
The officer involved is believed to have saved two other lives during her career, according to reports.
Authorities have reminded the public that anyone experiencing suicidal thoughts can seek help by calling 024, a free and confidential support line available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The service is also open to family members or friends concerned about someone at risk.
