Repairs to the sea wall and beach accesses on the Los Cristianos promenade are completed

The rehabilitation works on the Los Tarajales walkway on the seafront of Los Cristianos in the south of Tenerife have been finished in record time. The area had significant damage and required improvements that were not addressed by the previous administration.

The current Arona Council were aware of the serious safety deficiencies in the area, both for pedestrians walking along the promenade and for beach users, so undertook the works urgently, replacing the containment wall and railings in just over three months.

The mayor of Arona, Fátima Lemes, said, "We are committed to improving the coastline and beaches of the municipality, starting with emergency works such as those at Los Tarajales Beach, and as will soon be the case in Las Galletas. We will then continue with the improvement and renovation of all the promenades and accesses to the coasts and beaches of Arona."

The works were meticulous because around 70% of the 'Gaudí' type tiles were recovered, allowing them to be reused to pave part of the raised areas and thus preserve the image that the promenade has had for many years. They also installed over 600 metres of railing and improved all accesses to the beach.

The work began in early November 2023 when, in the first phase, the demolition and excavation of 72 metres in length were carried out, before the new stainless-steel railings were installed on the existing wall of the Los Cristianos promenade.

Earthmoving was necessary to set back the wall to the new alignment. During this phase, work had to be scheduled according to the tides, which prevented machines from operating during high tide.

In the second phase, the new concrete foundation was laid down, and the new 5-metre high mass concrete retaining wall was erected. Finally, to complete the actions, railings and handrails were installed at all beach accesses to maintain continuity with those already placed in the renovated area.
