A new hotel backed by tennis star Rafael Nadal and Meliá Hotels International is set to open in Fuerteventura next month, bringing a fresh luxury offering to one of the island’s most popular coastal areas.

The ZEL Fuerteventura hotel will open in May on Sotavento Beach, in the municipality of Pájara, a well-known spot for tourists thanks to its long sandy coastline and water sports. The development is the ZEL brand’s first move into the Canary Islands, following expansion across the Mediterranean and Caribbean.

The ZEL brand was co-founded by Rafa Nadal and Meliá, and focuses on relaxed luxury and wellbeing inspired by Mediterranean living.

The hotel will feature 142 rooms and suites, with direct beach access, an infinity pool and a range of open-air spaces designed for relaxation. Dining options will include a café serving coffee and cocktails, a restaurant combining Mediterranean dishes with local Canarian produce, and a bar located near reception.

Wellness and lifestyle activities are a key part of the concept, with guests offered options such as running clubs, cycling routes, fitness classes and diving. Social events, group sessions and live entertainment are also planned as part of the guest experience.

ZEL currently operates three hotels, with previous openings in Mallorca, Costa Brava and Punta Cana. The Fuerteventura launch will be its fourth, with further openings planned in Madrid, Mexico and Greece.

The new opening is expected to boost tourism in the south of the island, offering visitors another high-end accommodation option in a prime beachside location.
